The grand opening ceremony of the
7th Dalat Flower Festival with its theme “Flowers of Dalat – Miracle from the
Good Earth” took place on Saturday night at Lam Vien Square in central Dalat
City, Lam Dong Province, luring thousands of local and foreign guests.
Doan Van Viet, chairman of Lam
Dong Province and head of the organizing committee of the flower festival, said
that the biennial Dalat Flower Festival has become a tourism trademark of Dalat
City and Lam Dong Province as a whole and heaped praise from a large number of
domestic and international tourists flocking to the hilly resort city during
the year-end festive season.
The opening ceremony featured a
variety of music and dance performances reflecting the cultural identity of the
Central Highlands and promoting the tourism image of Dalat City to
international friends, the Vietnam News Agency reports.
The festival, lasting until
December 27, will feature flower streets, flower parades, vegetable and flower
fairs, ao dai (Vietnamese long dress) exhibition, workshops on flowers and an
investment promotion conference.
One of the highlights of this
year’s festival is the Lam Dong Week of Tea Culture that will be integrated for
the first time into the Dalat Flower Festival while a range of activities are
expected to be held to promote silk products of Bao Loc.
A source told the Daily that more
than 600 lodging facilities in the city of Dalat have signed a commitment not
to push up the room prices during the festival.
The number of visitors,
especially those from abroad to Dalat City, has been on the rise in recent
years. International tourist arrivals in the hilly resort city last year
climbed to 282,000.
